Technique:
Katate Mochi Sokumen Iriminage-1
Note:
Class of 6! Went over 10th kyu test, which let me able to work on Kamae and Kihon Dosa quite a bit, so it turned out great since it helped me a lot to pull me back from being totally lost and confused from the early class doing techniques for not having my balance/kamae, nothing at all.
Things work out for the best, is what I believe or what I want to believe : )
My senseis have been training Aikido for like 20 years...now they make every move very naturally. When they do knee walking, it looks like their knees are doing the job for their feet.
I can tell people what I hear from teachers, and often find it what they tell me is true when I do it after telling to the others...
Good news of the day: my back sore is going away!! : )

Note:
Class of 2...Man! So much to work on...I got stuck in every moment for not being able to make any moves even the way "I wanted to"...aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! : P
I was trying so hard to put my body together for the whole time, yet my body was doing exactly the opposite for the whole time...
I felt totally lost and confused towards the end of the class... I felt like my whole energy was hidden inside of me, and I became silent (or at least, thats how I felt). To kill that negative tension, I tried to say something aloud...I think what I said was,"YES, I DO" that volume I made...suprised a hell out of me : P
I guess I lost my balance there. (huu...)
I think John was making a neat circle with his Ikkajo-2.
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Ikkajo-1 : I did not get the elbow twist in the right way to let Uke down on knee...and the circle should follow the edge of Uke's balance...and the landing part...
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Ikkajo-2 : Stay forward between pivot and pivot, make Uke move before the last pivot
For Ushirowaza Initiation: Punch Strong and Straight Ahead.
Katate Mochi Hijiate Kokyunage-1 : Go forward with front foot, stay low and step in and throw. Hand slightly into Uke's shoulder
Katate Mochi Hijiate Kokyunage-2 : Pivot, dont go too wide, Step forward big and throw,
Hand slightly into Uke's shoulder
Shomen Tsuki Kotegaeshi-1 : Uke comes with punching, so DO NOT wait for the punch to come, go forward and get the upper arm of the punch.
I could flip on both sides, thats pretty much all I could do as the way I wanted to do for the whole class : P

Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Kotegaeshi-2 (Kagari geiko)
Note:
Class of 9! with 2 guest Black Belts and 2 Teachers...makes it 13 ! Again, the record for the year!
Yet, so many people, not so many mats for Kotegaeshi... ; )
Kotegaeshi turn: Hiriki no Yosei-2 turn, only if I can remember the feeling when I do it though...
I have been working on it for a while now, but the way I could feel making the turn was so fresh and effective.
Overall, the more I see it, it feels like the less you try to do things by moving your body, is the better way to do things. The simpler the better: you put yourself in kamae and make the least movements is the better, even though its harder to do it.
That KAMAE...I can work on a lot more...its not just going forward, but put your body together and make it ONE...takes a lot!
Its a great opptunity to train with people from other dojo, they probably tell us the same what our teachers tell us in everyday training, but hearing it from different people sometimes makes a huge difference, or gives a valuable effect as like a thunder light. However, the most important thing is EVERYDAY TRAINING, these special occasions are appreciated having good everyday training. Training does it all : )
I somehow find Kangeiko/Shochugeiko harder than regular trainings...its not the amount of the time for me...Its almost one extra day, I think the words "Kangeiko" put something in it to make it special. My body parts are so so so so so so sore... Still, I can not choose not to do these.

Man! his arms are soooooo long! It was the longest I had to be to make Ikkajo Pin!
Ryote Mochi Tenchinage-2!! : I do like Tenchinage even more!
Ushiro Ryote Ikkajo-2: get the hand, its like the joint of trains, make Uke's hand cup Shite's...start moving with knee and hip, when you stuck, there is a need to do pivot!
Katate Mochi Yonkajo: Like Katate Mochi Sankajo...it can be done this way too ; )
Sankajo-2: Dont break into too many too much details...its important but you can get lost in details and not to be able to see the whole movement. One way to see, and thats probably the thing we want to do.
We had so much fun, I had so so so so so so much fun!

Things dont work! most of the time, especially Hijiate...but sometimes it does, so I keep training.

Note:
Class of 2, Honey came back surviving the half the world trip. : )
Katate Mochi Yonkajo Mystery solved : ) I was very relieved to see the difference.
These techniques (which are our next test basic techniques) seem pretty complicated,
yet they are all the combination of what we have been doing in simpler techniques,
so if we know all the parts by concepts, its just put together and practice LOTS!
Some key points:
Ushiro Ryote Ikkajo-2: Right after making the pivot, to get the hand elbow and push into the hand is the very key, I couldnt see the next pivot movement only because I did not get this hand in the right position today, even though I knew the movements.

Ryote Mochi
Shomen Tsuki
Yokomen Uchi
Ushiro Ryote Mochi
Note:
Class of 1! The whole Jiyuwaza Practice class.
I was totally exhausted after 30 mins of practicing Jiyuwaza only going through 2 sets... and still easy to trap into my thoughts for what to do, and what I can do...it takes time :)
Throw, Zanshin, Kamae, Move forward...
It was a great class, being able to have sensei's focus all on me ;) Although it could be the hardest one to keep going for 90 mins! The toughest part was to push myself getting up and go forward...when I'm having Kangeiko effect...after an hour, I wanted to stay on the mat and sleep when I was thrown, I actually failed a few times to attack him as Uke...Kangeiko is hard, even though I know most of the techniques : )
Another week to go!

Katate Mochi Yonkajo Nage
Note:
Class of 4, Friday has come!
Surprised me that Yonkajo-2 worked better than 1...means I'm missing more in 1 technique...: P
Katate Mochi Yonkajo: My understanding was not accurate, but today I got the idea, as moving in, get Yonkajo hand.
Ryote Mochi Yonkajo: This is really cool, move to the side, pivot a little bit getting hand...there should be Yonkajo, then Bring Up pivot, Bring down pivot, move in, Osae.
Sensei threw me 360 degree, and I completely flew...think it was the first time anyone ever threw me with Yonkajo-2, felt exactly like Ikkajo-2 or Nikajo-2, I did not know it was even possible that way...
Yonkajo Nage: Dont get too excited : P
I do like Yonkajo even though I nearly have it...I just like the idea of Yonkajo get Uke's shoulder control only by touching wrist.
My Flip is getting a lot better, Or I'm having less fear to do.

Class of 1! I requested to go through Dai Ni Kihon Technique.
WOW!! 27 Techniques, Non-Stop!! It took 40 minutes, and was very hard technically, physically...of course, needs to work on much in details, yet all good stuff : )
Stumpy's Belt... did not go lose at all while mine did like 5 times today.
Hanmi Handachi Katate Mochi Shihonage-1: I still have no right shihonage hand grip, Uke's hand slips out from mine...and I fall as nage part...
Hanmi Handachi Katate Mochi Shihonage-2 : Can make a twist on hands with pivoting, a bit easier to get a hold of Uke, still not tight enough, think my lower body balance should stay steady with stronger knee walking/standing.
Hanmi Handachi Ryote Mochi Shihonage-1 :Don't lose the hands while shifting!
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-1 : A bit awkward direction yet very neat, try to stay steady...
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-2 : Strong blocking down to belt height is important.
Suwari Yokomen Uchi Ikkajo Osae-1 : How to make an economical circle to get an elbow...need to work on.
Suwari Yokomen Uchi Ikkajo Osae-2 : Move to the side to block Yokomen, over 180 pivot, pushing the elbow...as walking on knees, throwing circle could be smaller than Tachiwaza, is my feeling working on this one yesterday and today with sensei(s).
Katate Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 : Bring up and down the elbow...need practice
Katate Mochi Ikkajo Osae-2 : Even more than 1, need practice
Ushiro Ryote Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 : I like it with punch better, need to work on the egg circle
Ushiro Ryote Mochi Ikkajo Osae-2 : The egg circle and circling to the other direction
Suwari Shomen Uchi Sankajo Osae-1 : Sankajo-1 is good.
Suwari Shomen Uchi Sankajo Osae-2 : Difficult to circle around as Uke, need to learn better how.
Ushiro Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-1 : Shifting involves
Ushiro Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-2 : Pivoting involves
Katate Mochi Yonkajo Osae-1 : Katate Mochi Ikkajo and Yonkajo...
Katate Mochi Yonkajo Osae-2 : Katate Mochi Ikkajo and Yonkajo...its a long one.
Kata Mochi Sokumen Iriminage-1 :How to make the first twist...is the key
Kata Mochi Sokumen Iriminage-2 :How to make the pivot...
Suwari Yokomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage-1 : couldnt even aim for the spot
Suwari Yokomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage-2 : did not feel so difficult as I did sometime ago, and I want to work on Shomen Iriminage more, I can make it VERY effective (not only just strong)
Katate Mochi Hijiate Kokyunage-1 : Keep the balance, push from the back hip
Katate Mochi Hijiate Kokyunage-2 : Pushing the hand, strong pivot would make the difference..
Shomen Tsuki Kotegaeshi-1 : I did FLIP! means I did find the line to go, need a little bit stretch to do so, still there is a line.
Shomen Tsuki Kotegaeshi-2 : Hip not strong enough as I wanted to do...I almost fell throwing sensei...
Suwari Yokomen Uchi Kotegaeshi-1 : Dont get too excited! Make the "measurement shape" then move on...
Suwari Yokomen Uchi Kotegaeshi-2: Again! Dont get too excited!! Get Uke's hand carefully then move to the next step...keep steady make strong Kotegaeshi by coming up, I need to come up.
Interestingly, Suwari Kotegaeshi Pins seemed making a lot more sense than any other pins, at least for today.
hu...It was a lot to do, a lot to remember : )

Class of 5, it was another cold morning!
Roland sensei's class: during warm ups, seeing sensei in shomen...there was a flash back of him and me doing push-ups (50times!) on Friday...funny thing is that it did not come back once until I saw him being in the same position this morning ; )
Shomen Uchi Ikkajo: Suriashi, suriashi, suriashi
Suwari Yokomen Ikkajo-2: I was not sure how much pivoting and shifting was needed, but I "think" it can be a not-so-big turn for suwariwaza Ikkajo-2, yet you ckan make it strong if you can make the right circle...have to ask later. this was fun♪
Hiji Mochi Ikkajo-2: Men! My shoulder was so twisted ALL THE WAY! If you get this one right, there is no escape line for Uke...My elbow turns Uke's shoulder. COOL♪
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Ikkajo-1: Ikkajo-1 can get as stronger as your Suriashi, moving with hip...no hiding points. Egg circle = Shumatsu Dosa circle
Shomen Uchi Ikkajo-2: Over 180 PIVOT makes it all...mine is still 178 or less...
185 Pivot, 185 Pivot, 185 Pivot...
Ushiro Katate Eri Mochi Ikkajo-2: Took me some time to figure, turning shifting pivoting...basically same as Ryote Mochi movements, this one involves (requires) punching, it makes sense, and its cool and all...I just could not keep Ikkajo Shape all the way, my balance is not strong enough...
Huu.......again, it was a lot to do in one class : ) I was losing focus about 7:30, started making mistakes...tried saying my Kiai bigger to keep my focus on myself, found sounding like screaming...Oooooops... ; P
2 hours of full focus, not so easy, yet its all good stuff : )

Technique:
Katate Mochi Shiohonage-1
Ryote Mochi Shihonage-2
Hanmi Handachi Shihonage-1
Shomen Uchi Shihonage
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-2
Class of 5, Kangeiko has started! It's my third intensive training. We get to train so many techniques for the agenda for the day everyday : ) We did 5 for Shihonage today.
Shomen Uchi Shihonage: Migi Hanmi, 180 pivot & bring Shomen Uchi down, get the hand from below and bring to 90 degree angle by making a suriashi step, step forward to get Shihonage position, Hiriki no Yosei-2 shift, and Throw.
Yokomen Uchi Shinonage-2: Stepping aside to block Yokomen by the belt level, cup Yokomen hand with blocked thumb and index finger then make 180 pivot, Hiriki no Yosei-2 shift, throw.
Kangeiko / Shochugeiko have same schedule to cover basic techniques along with the same teacher order, however it started with Michael sensei teaching this time.
Although I dont have so much precise memory of the way teachers taught these courses last year since I was too busy trying the right moves for all the different techniques, it would be interesting to see the different points I would learn each time from now on as I know many of them and can try making the difference, I think the teahcer order change would help me to remember the course a little better. : )

Shomen Tsuki Kotegaeshi-1 with Tanto
Note:
Class of 1! Great "Hard Thompson" Class with Tanto : )
There was no time to go off focus, when I did...I made mistakes or got off balance which happened a few times during the class of an hour.
My thighs were crying during Kihon dosa (Tai no Henko-2 & Hiriki no Yosei-1 non-stop is a killer), and felt the pain that I wanted to cry for the soreness I was having on the side of lower leg during Suwari Tanto Practice... Felt a little relief when sensei told me he feels the same...somehow it helps to know "I'm not the only one, when I train hard with pain. : )
Found tiny scrathes on my knees after the class : P
Knee walking: How does it look from behind, that came across my mind when sensei showed me the way, so I asked to watch him does it from behind. It looked like he was walking with his knees using his knees as his feet. I tried to have that image when I did it, and I did it better ; )
To let body learn, to let muscle learn...as important as to learn and understand the movements.
When I'm in a hard training, ALL can think of (other than trying to do the things I'm told to do) is, "when is he (=sensei) gonna call us to stop. But I find a quite satisfaction when I finish doing it wituout giving up, also a feeling that my body has learned somethings from my movements, which are all good : )
Today, I felt my Kihon Dosa was so light and not low enough even though I tried pretty hard not breaking my balance as much as possible. However, I felt sweat drops inside my dogi right after that, which doesnt happen so often during winter...then I realized that was a sign for myself for making some effort : P
Kotegaeshi: I asked to do it since we did it with Bokuto just a week ago and I did not feel I was doing anywhere right, also knowing it doesnt work on Chris even with bare hands at all...
The key was my body, I dont turn it enough, move it enough...needs more practice but its good to know where to work on more ; )
It was quite hard, no space to be anywhere else for an hour... I so enjoyed it.
Next Week, Kangeiko!

Finding the point: I understand or I think I understand everytime I hear about this...but I hardly remember when I do techniques...
Have a plan: It probably good to have one or two plans what to focus on every time I do techniques, this probably I have heard so many times before too : P
I should write down these before I go to bed at night or at least I train for another time, its hard to remember about the day before : P

Shomen Uchi Yonkajo Osae-1
Shomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage-2
Shomen Uchi Sokumen Iriminage-2
Yokomen Uchi Sankajo Osae-2
Note:
Class of 3, worked on details of test techniques for David and Drew.
I am so sure that I was better at Shomen Uchi Sokumen Iriminage-2 when I was practicing for my test last summer ; P
Although I do remember the connection (similar but same "going around" motion) which Stumpy found for us with Tenchinage, I remember the way to do for Tenchinage and I do think my tenchinage is getting better (doesnt mean I do have that throw part yet, it should come later), Sokumen Iriminage is totally gone...or I do see Katate Mochi Sokumen Iriminage-2 better. (which is called the technique doesnt exist by 0545 buddies)
It tells what? Practice does it all : )
Yonkajo: Do not forget to cover a pulse (which I totally forgot about), then twist.
Shomen Iriminage-2:Uke falls, then 180 pivot. it has to be 180.
Yokomen Uchi Sankajo Osae-2: So many movements involved, I used to like this one more but now having difficulty the most to make it work.
Another words, I got stuck in everymotion when I tried on Chris last week...
For the last part of any "osae-2" movement, Uke never moves an inch if uke's bigger than me as long as I keep PULLING. I can make it move Uke only by PUSHING even Uke is a greatly heavy person, or at least up to "twice as big as me" = Stumpy : )
Yes, its a natural intention to drag someone over if you want to move somebody to the certain spot, it just doesnt work. I clearly remember the first time Stumpy ever told me this difference.
Still, I do pull Uke to move many times, but I never forget not to pull.
After noticing the difference of me, somehow lucking the focus feeling / being distracted by many thoughts on the mat even though I am feeling much more motivated for doing Aikido...
I feel I need to push some more or I can push some more...so thinking that I have to change my attitude, and I am trying to do so. I felt the similar way once shortly after started the morning classes. And I remember being "less friendly" and "more tensed" on the mat.
I assume this is exactly what they call, "spiral", there is no goal in this path, I just have to find my own way. I may have to keep going this "trying to find the better attitude" way for a little longer, not easy...but I believe there are breakpoints, and Training does it all.

Note:
Class of 1! Me and Stumpy, a quality time to go through on details of details of things I'm having difficulties ; )
I requested to practice Katate Mochi Yonkajo, then started from Katate Mochi Ikkajo...
Never go to Yonkajo...thought about asking to do "Ikkajo" for the whole class...
yet moved to Sankajo...umm...maybe will ask for it when I get a chance again.
This is a fact. Even though, I find the thin line for Ikkajo or Yonkajo...moving Stumpy is a lot of work, or a heavy work, also finding that thin line or fine point to make things work is difficult.
I remember pointing out to the teachers why we do Ikkajo so much...Now, they conduct the class with schedule, dont get to do Ikkajo so much...and I find...I miss doing Ikkajo... : P
I love Ikkajo, its the simplest, strongest. I want to be able to make it work with anybody even just Ikkajo.
However, I was given the greatest tip for Sankajo. I am very happy about this, and my Sankajo will never be the same!!!
Its Wednesday... became a bit of a discussion day. After that I realized I havent let my thuoghts out for quite a long time like that...how I am trying to change my Uke, get over my fear... When I feel a fear to get hurt doing Uke, I too much focus on the spot I'm afraid of, then everywhere else go with no care. "Trusting my body, or the mat" is one of the best (or the only) things to go over...
How I dont really see what uke could be facing when I'm shite...(mostly because I dont think my technique can be that strong for Uke to be feared), so I just simply try to make it work, and surprise myself when it does.
So much to deal with at the same time!! One at a time, is the best I can do : )

Note:
Class of 4, with Senseis (s) :-D
It snowed last night (or early this morning, not so many showed maybe because of that?!)
Hijiate Kokyunage: Its not so good to go too low, the concept is to bring Uke's elbow/shoulder higher.
I am having a problem, being distracted by the thought of mine trying not to get distracted and focus on training. Its been eating my mind and taking me a quite a bit.
Today, in the beginning of the class, there was only two people sitting in seiza. When sensei showed up to Shomen, I lost for a second, "who's supposed to call for 'Rei' ?" A micro second later, realized it was ME...
For the class, the more I tried not to talk it through, but think it though/walk it through...respond with "Osu" instead of "hai"...my brain got stuck somewhere...
At the end of the class, even having Sensei on the line ...all I could think of was "I have to call, I have to call" not to repeat the same as the beginning, I called, "seiza", again realized it was not ME to do, but Sensei to do.
DAMN DUMB ME!!
Well, whats done is whats done, now how do I move out from this...
I think, 5 mins of quiet Seiza would do it, so I will try from there.

Shomen Uchi Ikkajo, Hijishime with Bokuto
Shomen Uchi Kotegaeshi-2 with Bokuto
Note:
Class of 3, the first time with Bokuto (木刀 or 杖) class. I really did not know what to do with those long sticks for the first 5-10 minutes, eventually started being able to, at least, stay in center, then its got interesting : )
We went through 3 sets of Kihon Dosa, bare hands, then with a bokuto, then again with bare hands. After practicing with a bokuto, it felt somehow easier to stay in center to do Kihon Dosa. Also, I think I could see the reason for staying in center and low.
For techniques, the basic movements are no different from when we do with bare hands, it makes it stronger in parts using a tool within a grip.
One thing or the biggest thing is that our dojo has so many things hanging from the ceiling (lights, air conditioning..) and it was very very hard to train with bokutos (which are long sticks). We only had 4 people on the mat tonight with Sensei, it would be too hard to train we had more people...
We hardly use weapon tools for training, I never really was interested in doing it, however I found it very interesting to feel the difference with it without it, how to balance, stay in center...not as using a tool as a weapon.
Well...with Roland sensei...110 back breakfalls in a week or in 2 classes!! Its amazing that I did not get muscle sore from it, yet my upper arms are sore from using a bokuto : ) The whole class felt like 7 minutes, we all had a great time on the mat, off the mat having drunken Aikido talk ; )

Class of 6, I went through David and Steven's next test techniques.
The dumbest thing was that I did not remember how Shomen Uchi Sokumen Iriminage works! (did remember the movements) even though, remembering training this technique so many times for the test.
It was very interesting to see 2 different mind set people training together for the new techniques, it is not so hard to see what they were trying to do or not trying to do.
Again, Uke has to be ATTACKING Shite, its easier to resist preventing Shite for doing the technique, that can easily happen with a mind set of being afraid to get hurt. I try not to resist (but to go along) because it hurts more if I do. I think I need to work on changing that mind set to attack Shite until I were spotted in a place I can't go further, once I'm put in that position, I as Uke should start thinking of getting out it / slipping out from it. Its easy to think off the mat, hard to do on the mat... : )

Chris and me, went through Dai Ichi Kihon Techniques at a slower pace, making sure to make it effectively.
Very focused, fruitfull 30 mins.
Other than...
Sankajo-2: totally doesnt work on Chris
Nikajo: almost same as Sankajo (slightly better if I move backwards...)
Kotegaeshi, instead of taking Uke balance, I tip over all the time...
Shihonage: I have to have the fine line to bring his arm around when I make the turn
Shomen Iriminage: If I can bend him on Iriminage position, it should work
Ikkajo-1: this should work well, unless he decides to fight me back
Ikkajo-2: worse than Nikajo-2 YET!
Sankajo-1: I think I could have made this one the most effectively for TODAY : )
I so fly when he does Ikkajo-2, Nikajo-2 on me, I think I am getting better doing Uke for these, nothing you can do but land with less pain if you move fast enough, killer "2" techniques ; )
I would say that I was slightly better than yesterday, at least TRIED not to move around so much.
I happen to realize...everyone in this class is so much heavier than me. ( Of course, I knew that from before, but I just realize how much...) They are as heavy as me and one of my dogs together, and for Stumpy...lets not say it in here since I already know.
There is NO WAY for me to MOVE them when they have all their powers. Even though, I do believe there is a line or spot to make techniques effective, I just have to find that a thin line or small spot and have to know it.

When techniques dont work, I try to make more useless movements, then it gets worse...damn.
I do see the points John made for me to clearly, and there are so many.
I really dont mind getting bruises from training as long as I get it from training...however Chris gave me some pinching (by accident) with his tenchinage, and this shows as a tiny bruise...its funny : )
