Thursday, November 30, 2006

369:Thursday 7:00 : November 30, 2006

Test Training

Going through Dai Ni Techniques.

Note:
Class of 4. Worked on 2/3 of Dai Ni.

I remember the parts started coming together when I first started working on Dai Ni techniques. Yes, they are more complicated, but I had learned most of them in parts in different techniques, so now its to put them together.

Although, its very important that you have learned the parts correctly for the different techniques. For example, when I first realized hijishime and Ikkajo are so similar, I thought I was genious...after all, its designed for the same concept, so things are similar in lots of ways.

Again, look for whats the same instead of whats different.

368:Thursday 5:45 : November 30, 2006

Test Training

Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-1 & 2
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-1 & 2
Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage-1 & 2
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-1

Daito-ryu: Hugging from back, what do you do?

Note:
Class of 3. Our "Must" techniques with sensei, almost in Kagari-geiko style.

The killer teacher's Suwari Nikajo almost put my shoulder onto the mat and I did not know where to go...so I collapsed way before than I was supposed to...also his Shomen Uchi hit my forehead, my block was not tough enough to stop it. Its really embarrasing, I hope I can, at least, block it. I assume I've got to be quicker cuz its quite hard for me to be "stronger".

Suwari Shomen Iriminage still sucked...yet Sensei gave me an idea to look for more fluidity instead of "steps" going to 1 kyu stage. I probably have to come back to "steps" stage, but it would be good for me to try for more fluidity now : )

Sankajo sucks as always, lets not talk about it.

Shihonage! from Yokomen. I was quite good ♪ I had not problem going to shihonage position with people a lot bigger than me. Yet, I did not know how to do "nage" without smashing a uke onto the mat, I guess I was not in fully control of my movements. Its not nice not to be able to finish the techniques.

361:Friday 19:00 : November 24, 2006

Test Training

Focued on:

Hiji Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2

Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Kotegaeshi-1 & 2

Katate Mochi Shomen Iriminage-1 & 2

Along with...

Ushiro Ryokata Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2
Ushiro Eri Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2

Note:
Class of 4. Quite decent test training. Most of all, I did remember what I learned in the morning, and could do "almost" the same at night, that was very good practice for me.

Again, I like Ushiro Ryokata, these look really cool : )

Friday, November 24, 2006

360:Friday 7:00 : November 24, 2006

Basic:

Back Breakfalls (20)

Shumatsu Dosa-1 & 2

Technique:
Suwariwaza Yokomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage-1 & 2

Ushirowaza Ryokata Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2
Ushirowaza Ryohiji Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2

Note:
Class of 1! Learned lots of Ushiro techniques...they are so NEAT! Some of them have "what a hell?" movements in parts, still if you can stay low and move quickly...that would look fantasticly fun with such a small effect!! I LIKE IT!!

However, its not easy to do Ushirowaza without balance and steadiness. It looks totally bizarre if you dont know whats going on...In reality, I dont know its effective or not. but I think they are great LEARNING techniques.

Note:
Class of 8 with 2 senseis, 10 people on the mat was quite a people!

I realize...I am not certain for 6 techniques on the whole list, and I know I need to work on most of Dai Ni and All of Dai San so much for the test (not just for the test, but esp. for the test for NOW ) ; )

and Jiyuwaza...I so lose everything in every motion.

Practice, practice and Practice

: )

356:Tuesday 5:45 : November 21, 2006

Stumpy's Flip Seminar

Jiyuwaza Practice

Note:
Class of 2.

Great discovery, Two great discoveries.
1) Dont look down the mat when you flip
2) Dont try anything but to attach as Uke

Amazed by the fact it made our flips 3 times ligher when we started NOT to look down on the mat!!!

What I am supposed to do is "attacking" not flip out, flipping out is an escape for not to get hurt.

I wish I remember more how I was trying to do in the earlier stages...I do remember it was hard in the beginning to apply "shomen uchi" with both hands as shite, but I no longer think about it (other than make it better) once I get how to do, what to do.

However, I was feeling much much better so I could have started training which made me feel even better : )

Note:
Stumpy got even sicker...how sad...and I assume others who are in town are not well either, otherwise, they would be training!!

Anyway, I spent a quality time alone on the mat, working on some basic stuff. I have been carring some soreness at the bottom of my hip for days...its quite a bother when I do warm ups...I dont know how I did it, yet am surprised the pain is staying for a long time.

Winter is on its way, and it gets quite cool in the early mornings. Although, Kihon dosa gives drops of sweat ; ) Kihon Dosa never gets easier, does it?

Ryote Mochi Shihonage-1

Stumpy's jiyuwaza (5 throws) after class.

Note:
Class of 3. Very quiet day overall...

Worked on flips quite a bit, got confused a little...

There are things need to be learned by watching/hearing, yet your body has to learn it after all. Although...it takes time and try to think how to make it happen while you are learning the basic movements, then its easy to forget how we got it once body gets how to move. Then, it comes to the point to thinking about how to make it better, dont really know how , think about it...that cycle never ends...

But I do remeber today that "FLIPPING" was such a BIG DEAL and kept me haning for 6 MONTHS!

329:Tuesday 5:45 : October 31, 2006

Test Planning

Note:
Class of 1! Stumpy planned out all the classes before the test. So many things (in other words everything) to work on!!

Technique:

Kata Mochi Hijishime-1

Note:

Class of 3.

My hands were even sweating during the hard Kihon Dosa! Of course, my knees and thighs were crying...

Tai no Henko-1: Tried to move forward up to the line ahead. Its a bit hard to come back not losing control but it was fairly all right.

Tai no Henko-2: I may be pivoting too much, tried to adjust it to 95 degree but was not easy.
also tried not to stay in the center, and it made me come up...also worked on the crispness, thats hard to keep in balanced.

Hiriki no Yosei-1: This is the worst, the hardest, especially doing it right after Tai no Henko-2...Knee's already crying, and its just hard to make body move in that condition.

Hirki no Yosei-2: This is difficult, just so. I feel like I come up everytime I try to make the turn.
Also, I thought for the first time during the test last week that it was bizarre to show your back whoever you are opposed to when you get ready to the "Yoi" position.

Everytime I do it, I see things to work on, I see the point I can not push any further...

Note:
Class of 3.

There are so many techniques to learn, and each takes a long time to learn.
So...keep training, ha ha ha...

Its difficult to put body together and make backwards movement, upper body doesnt do much although I intend to do so much with it...its mostly how to use legs/ knees / hips.
There was ONE TIME somehow I moved with my lower body putting together, it was very strong. I hope I can do the same tomorrow again.

30 mins of Shumatsu Dosa...felt drops of sweat coming down on my face, neck...
one drop came down on my nose SOMEHOW got INTO my NOSE!
HOW? HOW? HOW?
It was not exactly a pleasant feeling but it was sure funny : )

Sensei just did not stop us doing Shumatsu Dosa ( he was doing it with us, so it was a fair call), and it went to 30 mins. We used the same method for test training on the second half of the class. Repetition is not the ONLY way, but it sure works to figure things out by doing the same thing in different ways or even the same ways.

Beginners' Course and Test Training

Dai Ichi Kihon

Back Breakfalls (20)

Katate Mochi Sokumen Iriminage-1

Note:
Class of 3.

You train everyday, and you get better everyday...its just obvious.
Although, sometimes it doesnt feel that way, cuz you keep finding what you did not see before as you get better... or you think you get it, then sensei touches and move your body like half a centimeter, then you feel like you know nothing.

You learn everyday, however, what you learn and how you learn is never the same.
Its fun to learn something you dont know, and even fun to have your body learn something you think you know.

The chance to learn "something" is the reason I come back to the mat like everyday : )

Thursday, September 21, 2006

279:Thursday 7:00 : September 21, 2006

Test Training

Dai Ichi Kihon Techniques

Note:
Class of 4. 2 people were training for the test.

There are so many points that I was not quite doing the way I thought I did.
Actually, the more I train the less I think I know how to do...
Its always fun to find what I can do, what I cant, then I know what and how to work on
...just its always be REMINDED of that.

At least, I dont have to bang my head with a ponytail when I fall backwards is a good thing ; )

278:Thursday 5:45 : September 21,2006

Sankajo kills...also Nikajo kills...or Bloody Chris does...

Basic:
Shumatsu Dosa-1 & 2

Technique:
Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-1
Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-2

Yokomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage-1
Yokomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage-2

Note:
Class of 3, Chris' knee was massively blooding...he, not only, had to tape up the wound but also washed blood off from his dogi!

Again, my nikajo was not working today...Stumpy showed us the line to follow moving uke off the balance...that is the key...if I keep trying, someday it'll come!

Also, its a big challenge to take strong nikajo as uke, not to just escape but to find a way out, guess you have to move ahead as uke which is quite hard.

The line of Shomen Iriminage...takes practice ; )

Basic:

Tai no Henko-1
Tai no Henko-2

Technique:
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-1
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-2

Note:
Class of 3. Sankajo, Sankajo, Sankajo!

I have been having the hardest time with Sankajo (except for Sankajo-1).

Getting Sankajo is hard enough, yet keeping Sankajo and move on to Bringing down, Cutting down and turning around and Finish is even more difficult. I got stuck in these moves so many times and I so many times wanted to cry since I could not move Uke even an inch...
A little while ago, I finally realized the key is to "keep" Sankajo all way through, as if noone ever had told me before... Even when I thought I got the idea of what I had to do, I did not know how to make it happen. But today... I saw how to keep Sankajo, maybe not in a great way, still all way through.

When you can keep that Sankajo Shape all way through...you could hurt uke very easily unless you are not careful...In the beginning of today's class, I was so trying hard for my Sankajo shape and almost forgot about David's left elbow... ouch ...and sorry..I dont know if I like Sankajo, but I know a lot people do.

Sankajo can kill, so have to keep it in mind ; )

TEST TRAINING: OH MY GOD! WHERE ARE YOU GUYS COME FROM?

10 Students with 1 Sensei.
11 People on the mat!!
Trained in 4 groups. Sensei assigned us, brown belts, to each group and moved us around.
Lucky them when they had David or Umemura san...I'm just a mean person to train with : )

I had a good time training with different people moving around.

Note:
Class of 4, Amazing! Everybody in TOWN!!

Never knew ( or did not realize) How difficult Suwari Kotegaeshi-2 is!! In Tachi, Kotegaehi-2 makes much more sense than 1. It was so bizarre to find that was hard enough to keep my center and we are supposed to move around with knee or pivot around with knee
...And so much movement involves...simply very tiring ; )

Good to train with everyone, good to be back on the mat ; )

Punching Practice
Shomen Tsuki Practice
Atemi Practice

Note:
Class of 4. Stumpy gave me the pink eye a few weeks ago...I am almost gone over it and coming back to the training this week. Eyes still not 100%...And yes, it gets PUNCHED! Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!

My sleeping pattern is not quite back to the right way since I got sick, I came back to training on Wednesday, and I finally started having a good sleep last night...So I was totally in a deep sleep when my alarm went off at 4:30am this morning, it was one of the hardest morning to get up...

Anyway I got up and sat in a tub as filling the hot water to wake my body up, ended up dozing off for 10...15 mins!! Got ready and was able to catch the usual train, and got to the dojo on time...I was still VERY sleepy even when I got into the dogi...zzzzzzzzzzzz

The class started, the basic stuff, had to work hard, knees and backs everywhere was in pain...gradually started get sweat, even felt a drop coming down on the back...was still sleepy...

The Next step, "Punch" practice. The first step was practicing facing the mirror, and moved to the second step, to work with the others. Sensei demonstrates as usual. I knew I had to be UP...his punch hurts always. He was showing it to people who could possibly seeing it for the first time. Geez, it was even harder than usual.

He finished his demonstration successfully(means no screw up on my uke), we started working in pairs. Its really really hard movement to do for the first time. Sensei had to show it to the person I was working with again.
I knew I had to be 120% wide awake...so I tried but for one micro second, my mind went blank, then...I missed to block and got punched right on my eye...OUCH!

It really did hurt very very badly, I wanted to cry like a baby for a second but we had to keep working so we did...

Things get worse when you think it cant get any worse...as I read it somewhere...

Its too funny to be true if Roland gave me a black eye to cover the pink eye which was given by Stumpy...

Luckily, I was planning to see my eye doctor for my pink eyes, and the doctor found no damage other than the remaining of the pink eye.

Suriashi, Kamae...Strike...everything is hard to do in the beginning, its totally NEW to your body and people try to do whatever image you have in your mind and it takes time to see what you are really told. Very interesting and fun.

Ryote Mochi Shomen Iriminage-1
Ryote Mochi Shomen Irimiange-2

Shomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage (Jiyuwaza Style)

Note:
Class of 5. Everytime, I hit somewhere I'm not supposed to take Sensei's Uke for ANY KIND of Iriminage, today was not an exception. I hit my elbows once, and twisted my ankle for another.

My back breakfalls are so bad. I dont know how I do it wrong but my body doesnt learn how to fall as I sit down. I dont like it doing wrongly cuz it hurts pretty bad. I dont do so great forward rolls nor flips either (then I still often damage my ankle...) yet I can see what to work on better than backwards.

Knee flexibility?? or Back?? or could be all...anyway... might want to try making some effort on back breakfalls rather than just my regular effortless ones. : )

254:Tuesday 5:45 : August 29, 2006

Basic:
Shumatsu Dosa

Technique:

Katate Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1

Note:
Class of 3. Stuck with one technique, Katate Mochi Ikkajo-1.

It seems like the circle to make is nothing other than we do in Kihon Dosas. ( I knew that, but to remind me...) I have been trying hard to keep my hips straight and squar as much as possible in any positions I'd be, makes my movements smaller than they should be...

Working with bigger guys requires certain force just to get or keep the shape (of shoulders or elbows...) I'm supposed to get. I believe, at the end, its possible to do it without force but it takes a long time, so I have to keep trying the way I do for now.

I'm starting to see the image how hips and legs (with knees) are moved together and relax upper body...of course, seeing knowing trying and being able to do are all different. ; )

252:Saturday 6:15 : August 26,2006

Basic:

Kamae
Rolls...

Technique:

Dai ni Kihon

Note:
Class of 2. Free mat class, went through Dai ni Kihon as many as possible.

I'm not doing very well with Ikkajo-2, Nikajo-2 movements. I may be staying more in the center when I make the last shift, instead of staying forward.

Pivot on Hanmi Handachi-2 needs to be worked on a lot.
Some people do a great pivot makes it look like disappearing from Uke's sight.
My knees are not low enough to do good pivots, guess need to work on more for that too.

251: Saturday 11:30 : August 26, 2006

Kokusai Class

Basic:

Kamae
Seiza ho
Hiriki no Yosei-1
Suriashi

Technique:
Kata Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1
Kata Mochi Ikkajo with one arm

Note:

Class of 15 or more. Great practice to work on Kamae. Sensei said, " if you feel like your hips are squared, they are not." its good to know. : )

The first half of the class was a lot harder than it looked. I could not keep my legs in the position until the next count was called towards the end with Hiriki no Yosei-1. I havent been able to pass that limit yet when I'm in pain...

So much to work on to get the better Kamae...so much to remember, so much to do. What shows from these works is very little.

Technique:

Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Yonkajo Osae-1
Shomen Uchi Yonkajo Osae-1
Yokomen Uchi Yonkajo Osae-2
Ryote Mochi Yonkajo Osae-1

Note:
Class of 3.

Whats the image to do Yonkajo? Sensei asked. His way is to turn the elbow around and move it forward. He PROBABLY told us before but I did not remember and that was a good approach.

Also, I'm working on keeping the distance, (its not good to get too close.)

Thursday, August 24, 2006

249:Shochugeiko-Day4: Thursday 7:00 : August 24, 2006

Basic:

Back Breakfalls (50)

Hiriki no Yosei-2

Technique:

Shomen Uchi Sankajo Osae-1
Shomen Uchi Sankajo Osae-2
Ushirowaza Ryo Kata Mochi Sankajo Osae-1
Ushirowaza Ryo Hiji Mochi Sankajo Osae-2
Yokomen Uchi Sankajo Nage (Throw forward)
Yokomen Uchi Sankajo Nage (Throw backward)

Note:
Class of 4.

it was ... HOT !!!

I simply thought, people can lose its mind when it gets too hot!
I did not have any energy to even look at the mirror to see how my hair or dogi was messed up during the class. I had to try not to lose my energy to do Aikido, that was all I could care.

However, it was a great class. : )

This Shochugeiko has been very quiet, so keep working on the same partner most of the time, that makes me see that person's improvement very clearly. Its hard to see my own improvements in days but easy to the others.

So, its been quiet but very enjoyable Shochugeiko so far.

248:Thursday 5:45 : August 24, 2006

I worked on some basic stuff by myself, I need to get a lot of my movements back!!

Wednesday, August 23, 2006

247:Shochugeiko-Day3: Wednesday 7:00 : August 23, 2006

Basic:

Tai no Henko-2

Technique:

Suwariwaza Kata Mochi Nikajo Osae-1
Suwariwaza Hiji Mochi Nikajo Osae-2
Mune Mochi Nikajo Osae-1

Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-1
with HAJIME for several mins
(did not know exact time, did not see the clock)

Ryote Mochi Nikajo Osae-1
Katate Aya Mochi Nikajo Osae-1

Note:
Class of 4.

Another Hard Ass Class...however, the weather was not so bad ; )

Sensei was also doing Hajime, yet we were at the different pace..still he never gave us a second of rest during that several minutes, meaning he kept calling "Hajime" right on time for most of the time. We might have done it once without hearing the call, other than that there was no chance for us to even question when to do, the call kept coming all the times.

246:Wednesday 5:45 : August 23, 2006

Basic:

Hiriki no Yosei-1
Hiriki no Yosei-2

Technique:
Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-1
Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-2
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-1
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-2

Sankajo Practice

Note:

Class of 2. Lots of Suwari this week : )

I thought I was able to move quite smoothly and precisely with Nikajo and Sankajo.
It was a very smooth and fun class, did not feel "Oh Shxx"...thats rare : ), although it was the second day in a row to work on Shomen Uchi Nikajo, so I guess it proved Training does it all : )

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

245:Shochugeiko-Day2: Tuesday 7:00 : August 22, 2006

Basic:
Hiriki no Yosei-1 & 2 with partner

Technique:

Kata Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1
Suwariwaza Katate Mochi Ikkajo Osae-2
Katate Mochi Ikkajo Nage

Shomen Uchi Ikkajo Osae-1
and
HAJIME for 4 mins (did not see this coming...)

Note:
Class of 6, HAJIME was hard, very hard. I felt my body falling a part, not having kamae even for a second. We were told to go faster and faster, but my mind was keep questioning..."HOW?" (There could be ways to get faster but not being able to see, is one of the points of doing HAJIME, I guess)

I was so beat...and was still sweating on the train to work.

244:Tuesday 5:45 : August 22, 2006

Basic:

Tai no Henko-1
Tai no Henko-2

Technique:

Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-1&2
Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-1&2

Nikajo Practice

Note:
Class of 3, Stumpy's back on the mat, YEY!

My Nikajo sucks! I try not to worry about it too much, but it doesnt help me getting better at it...Who knows? I may become an expert in ... 20 years! Just keep trying.

I'm more thinking about my 2 movements. There must be something wrong with it. Guess I need to work on Hiriki no Yosei-2 a lot more. If I can feel the crisp turning around with my Hiriki no Yosei-2 during the techniques, something might change.

Less with the arms, more with the hips. : )

Monday, August 21, 2006

243:Shochugeiko-Day1: Monday 7:00 : August 21, 2006

Shochugeiko Started!

Basic:
Kihon Dosa (10 times each?)
Tai no Henko-1 & 2
Hiriki no Yosei-1 & 2

Technique:
Katate Mochi Shiohnage-1
Katate Mochi Shihonage-2
Ryote Mochi Shihonage-1
Ryote Mochi Shihonage-2
Hanmi Handachi Katate Mochi Shihonage-1
Hanmi Handachi Katate Mochi Shihonage-2
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-1
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-2
Shomen Uchi Shiohonage

Note:
Class of 4. Series of Shihonage for Shochugeiko Day1.

2 pairs on the mat, changed up partners and went on and on and on.
Sensei ( or his arm) sweats a lot, yet he keeps moving as if he doesnt know "to be tired".

My biggest focus was not to smash my head on the mat...When I can be in control of my falls, I dont but when I can't be...I do, BANG BANG BANG! It sure hurts badly...
Yet, I think I did better than last week. Still, I was too slow or too fast to fall...

Shihonage can be done with a fluidity (only if you are good!), yet you can practice by stopping every movement. I tried to stay in kamae as much as possible. For me, its better to let my body learn where to be rather than try not to forget what to do...that way it just takes more training, but it works for me : )

242:Saturday 6:15 : August 19, 2006

Basic:

Back Breakfalls (10)
Kihon Dosa

Technique:
Dai Ichi Kihon

Note:
Class of 2, free mat class.

Went through Dai Ichi Kihon...legs did not move I expected, then finally realized that I lost all of my leg movements or even ab muscles by "so" protecting one knee for 2 months!! I've never seriously injured, meaning I did not know how to recover my body not just heal the injury.

Banging my head on the mat so many times with sensei's shihonage was not the only thing I could not do. Well, now I know what to work on...thats better.

Hungry learns more than pain from injury ; )

241: Saturday 11:30 : August 19, 2006

Kokusai Class: Jiyuwaza

Basic:
Hiriki no Yosei-1 & 2

Flip Practice with mats

Technique:

IN: Shomen Uchi Ikkajo Nage
OUT:Shomen Uchi Sankajo Nage
IN: Shomen Uchi Shihonage
OUT:Shomen Uchi Kokyunage (Sumi Otoshi)
IN: Shomen Uchi Hijiate Kokyunage
OUT:Shomen Uchi Kotegaeshi

Note:
Class of 20ish. Jiyuwaza after 2 months was tough in many ways...

Its not like I could not get what I was supposed to do in these Jiyuwaza (except for Kotegaeshi, I'm really bad at it) Its mainly because my body did not remember how to "flip". Still. I was OK for flipping up but to land...so I did not miss going up in the air but did not have a clue how to land when I got up in the air, then I kept splatting my body onto the mat which was very hard to come up back on my feet and also embarrassing...

As a result, I ended up having nasty scratches right beside my elbows for hitting the mat.

I think I lost all my natural flipping movement (I still did not have the way 2 months ago, I even lost what I had then), and not having a way to come up only encouraged me to run out even faster... it was very very hard to go through all patterns as it got added each time until it went up to all 6.

Even though, going back to Kokusai class after 2 months was very fun. We had to go through all 6 patterns in front of everybody at the end. I somehow managed it without making any major mistakes (except for Kotegaeshi) : )

Friday, August 18, 2006

240:Friday 7:00 : August 18, 2006

Basic:
Suriashi
180 Pivot and Shift

Technique:
Shomen Uchi Ikkajo Osae-1
Ikkajo with one hand (inside hand, outside hand)

Shomen Uchi Ikkajo Osae-2

Note:
Class of 2.

Back to the training week.

getting up 4:30 for 3 days in a row did not seem too tough to do comparing getting up 3:30 for 3 days in a row as I usually do...since there was no 545 class this week, yet it was tougher than expected. Still, its an achivement for me, small but great to have.

Also, 2 whole classes to train only with sensei. I tried to watch as close as possible for what / how he does, but it seems he's keeping his back straight and little trick here and there...
his hip and back are always together. It doesnt look much but its very hard to do.

Thursday, August 17, 2006

239:Thursday 7:00 : August 17, 2006

Basic:

Kihon Dosa (all in right and left)

Technique:

Katate Mochi Nikajo Osae-1
Suwariwaza Katate Mochi Nikajo Osae-2
Katate Mochi Nikajo Osae-2

Nikajo Practice

Note:
Class of 7, 3 black belts and another Aikido in Sauna...HOT!

Something I noticed yesterday and today...I am not quick enough to do anything.
I am just waiting for it, that makes my movement too late or too soon.

Finally started sitting in seiza after nearly 2 months, my body also needs some catching up : )

Wednesday, August 16, 2006

238:Wednesday 7:00 : August 16, 2006

Basic:

Kihon Dosa (all for right and left)

Ryote Mochi Shihonage-2
Hanmi Handachi Ryote Mochi Shihonage
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-1
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-2
Shomen Uchi Shihonage

Note:
Class of 2...one is with broken arm, so it was really only me with sensei for being able to do the techniques...I went speechless towards the end...
Sweat came out from everywhere since it was hot and humid, and the mat was very heavy cuz they did some kind of cleaning which we dont think really effective, and so was I as a result of no training for a week. I kept banging my head onto the mat with sensei's shihonage...

Not really I could do other than staying alive..."back in action ha ha ha" was what sensei said...indeed...

Bon Vacation : お盆休み

Dojo is closed for a week : Aug 9 - 15.

Its one of the weeks in the year when Tokyo gets quiet...
People somehow disappear from the street, train...

However, its HOT,
seriously HOT in Tokyo.

Hope everyone is having a nice off week from Aikido,
see you on 16th!

237: Tuesday 7:00 : August 8, 2006

Hiriki no Yosei-2 with partner

Technique:
Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-1
Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-2

Katate Mochi Sankajo Nage

Class of 4. Ryote Mochi Sankajo, I suffered as I did the first time. Well, I remember it took so long for me to see what to do with Tenchi Nage, there must be similality with this one, which I dont see it yet...just takes time...

I think...everyone's Aikido is different, of course techniques are called the same, principals are the same, yet its done by people whose with different in body size, shape...etc..
Sometimes its hard since teachers teach their ways and we, the beginners, get confused since it sounds different. This seems like happening everywhere in the world.

Again, I think...the way not to get confused is to find my way. Yeah, right. It takes training, lots of it : )

236: Tuesday 5:45 : August 8, 2006

Basic:

Hiriki no Yosei-2 with partner

Katate Mochi Kokyunage (neck)

Note:

Stumpy's Ryote Mochi Kokyunage gave me a big bruise on my leg...he has a reputation being mean...!

Kata Mochi Yonkajo Osae-1
Kata Mochi Yonkajo Osae-2

Kata Mochi Kokyunage (non basic)
Kata Mochi Shihonage (non basic)

Note:
Class of 2. 2 weeks in a row, Sugar and me with sensei. Its a great fun yet its seriously challenging and soooooooooo exhausting!
It takes me a few minutes to go through one technique with each one of big guys and I get almost out of breath...

Yonkajo, Sankajo, Nikajo, Ikkajo...all the aim is the same, get shoulder control by holding different parts of Uke. I think Yonkajo has the least touch, thats why its very hard unless you get the right angle for every move. I may be wrong but thats how I think.

To apply Yonkajo on Stumpy is the hardest...I can see that its even challenging for Chris, and its so clear that he enjoys the challenge. I could say its fun afterwards but not when I'm stuck in the movements...wonder how it would be when he gets 60 years old, I wish I'd be able to say like..."yeah, "HE" is heavy but its easy." ; )

Shomen Uchi Hijishime-2

Shomen Uchi Hijiate Kokyunage-1 (non basic)
Shomen Uchi Hijiate Kokyunage-1 (basic)

Note:

Class of 5, all HIJI techniques.

I have to admit that I dislike Hijishime less since I started noticing the similarity with Ikkajo.
Still, its not easy to keep hips straight and stay in the balance.

Working on Rolls/Flips. I think, its a great way to use the hand to keep the distance from the mat before hitting it. Then, you can make a nice long line to land. I think.

229:Tuesday 5:45 : August 1, 2006

Basic:

Tai no Henko-1 with partner
Tai no Henko-2 with partner

Technique:

Katate Mochi Sokumen Iriminage-1
Shomen Uchi Sokumen Iriminage-2
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Sokumen Iriminage-1

Note:
Class of 4 with Stumpy! : )

I guess we are starting over again from Sokumen Irimianage, or its randomly chosen by chance.
It really doesnt need power if you can get the angle and timing right.

It was fine Sokumen Class, still I need to work on my breakfalling.

Sunday, July 30, 2006

228:Saturday 6:15 : July 29, 2006

Basic:

Technique:

Hiji Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1
Hiji Mochi Nikajo Osae-2
Ushirowaza Ryo Hiji Mochi Sankajo Osae-1
Hiji Mochi Yonkajo Osae-2

Note:
Class of 2, it started with a word of Sensei, "let's open the window" : )
In the first 15 mins, sweats were coming down from everywhere...
Another being like boiled octopus 90 mins!

I suffered with second half part of Sankajo as always...got stuck everytime!!
My body was not doing what I meant to do, and was told "thinking too much"...
Although it was a great training to do Hiji Mochi in series.
I like the idea of Ikkajo&Yonkajo, Nikajo & Sankajo are, maybe, too complecated for me ; )

Worked on 3 for the whole class with people allows no sh.t...could not make any sound to keep my focus in a certain spot, it felt great when it was done!

Drinks after class tasted the greatest ever! Yet, I got drunk too fast, then got sick a bit...and I think...fell into a sleep sitting in the bathroom floor..., but got better when I woke up and got home safely : )

Now, 2 days later, I think of it...it was kinda funny, I totally lost a sense of time, yet I was so aware of the noise of the bar and stuff... : P

Friday, July 28, 2006

227:Friday 7:00 : July 28, 2006

Basic:

I was late for 15 mins, and missed Kihon Dosa.

Technique:

Ryote Mochi Tenchinage-1
Yokomen Uchi Sankajo Osae-2

Note:
Class of 2. Working on 3 with Sensei, which can be almost called "Friday routines".

Yeah, right...I got stuck...sensei did not move an inch...I wanted to cry...
...Yes! I am working on it, but Sankajo-2 seems ... I can never make it work!

Yes, teachers do have different approaches to the same techniques.
Yes, we would like to learn all the ways, but we can only learn one at a time!

I'm so confused with both technqiues we worked on today, by being given more than one direction from more than one teacher. I "know" that its to look for whats the same instead whats different...but we just need time to practice more and more.

Again, it was a very hot morning : )

Thursday, July 27, 2006

226:Thursday 7:00 : July 27, 2006

Basic:
Kihon Dosa: Breath out on 1, breath in on 2...♪♪

Ryote Mochi Kokyuho-1 (with Throw)
Ryote Mochi Shomen Irimiange-1

Ryote Mochi Kokyuho-2(Hands)
Ryote Mochi Shomen Irimiange-2

Kata Mochi Kokyunage

Note:
Class of 4.

6:58am the windows were opened, then we became almost as "Boiled Octopus" when the class ended at 8:00am! Man, Tokyo's humidity is crazy...

We stayed in Tachi Techniques with Kokyuho...for me : )

Kamae makes a huge difference in the whole technique, yeah right, its not new.

Sensei makes "releasing" movements, yet he doesnt exactly "pull"... what is that?

Its great to be back on training, but my body is not balanced, I know I'm trying to use everything but my left knee, its not easy but I am hoping that I can find some way to find my balance point training with this knee.

Oh man, oh man, oh man...I ever suck at falling backwards! its from the beginning, and I still am so bad at it. I feel no smoothness but dumping my butt onto the mat.

225:Thursday 5:45 : July 27, 2006

Basic:

Tai no Henko-1
Tai no Henko-2

Technique:

Katate Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2
Hiji Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2
Kata Mochi Ikkajo Osae-1 & 2

Note:

Class of 2...We thought we had a few questions for Ikkajo...ended the class having millions of it!
AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaa
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The plan was to go through 3 Ikkajos and be happy with the answers we hear...ended up having more questions and being more confused!!

Hiji Mochi Ikkajo-2: the hand work is pretty much like Tai no Henko-2.

Shomen Uchi Ikkajo-2: our teachers have their circles in vertically and holizontally. I am trying vertical one and dont know if I can even try the other way... As Uke, you would be smashed on the mat before you know it in holizontal way, so you'd better prepared to fly as Uke ; )

Stumpy is a very tall person, not the tallest in the world but the tallest in the dojo. When he gets us, it hurts. When he throws us, it hurts on the way, and hurts again when we finally being smashed on the mat.

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

224:Wednesday 5:45 : July 26, 2006

Kihon Dosa with Stumpy

Kihon Dosa Renzoku

Tai no Henko-1 : You are not thinking about Uke at all, are you?

Tai no Henko-2 : Again, you are just thinking about yourself.

Hiriki no Yosei-1: Do it by yourself, I have to see what you are doing wrong.

Hiriki no Yosei-2 : The hand needs to be turned as you turn!

Shumatsu Dosa-1 : The angle could be different for everyone. Dont believe everything you are told on the mat...you have got to find your angle, your circle after all.

Shumatsu Dosa-2 : Forgot what I was told...by the time we got here, I was not so bad on everymotion...or so I hope...

Note:
Class of1 with Stumpy : All Kihon Dosa : ) He sweated 10 TIMES MORE than I did. I asked the difference at the end and was told, " Try harder" ............................................................!

The less you move, the better your technique gets.
Its harder than it sounds since people usually think the other way, I guess you have to switch your mind when you do Aikido.

Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Hijishime-2

Yokomen Uchi Hijishime-2, Ikkajo Osae-1

Note:
Class of 3, 2 hrs of Hijishime!

I somehow find so much of simirality with Ikkajo (well movements very close even if "I" dont find the similarities...so probably they are designed to be ... but finding it myself was kinda cool) I may be able to like Hijishime if I can find more simiralities.

Umm.....Cant wait my knee gets healed! Now, I cant really do any of techniques which involve Osae...I'm finally convinced myself for going back to Mitorigeiko until I will be able to kneel properly.

Friday July 7, 2006

The fun 3 days in Vancouver was over, I got up early to catch 11:00 flight to LA through Denver.

I got to the airport way ahead of time, so I had enough time to relax...then I realized I was missing A bag...I forgot to bring a bottle of sake to the techer in LA!

Oh No!!

I bought it in Narita, carried it all the way to Vancouver, not only that, I ran with it trough San Francisco airport!

I decided not to worry about what was done...and started thinking about what can be done from then.

Exchanging at Denver was easy, you just walk out the plane and got into another. So was my luggage, or supposed to...

I was waiting for my luggage to come out from that electric belt which usually takes forever to bring the luggage, so I waited forever...and forever... this time, forever meant forever!

I sure had a feeling about it somehow, so who could I blame it for, and it just happened... fortunately it came only an hour late, so it did not effect my training plan which was good.

For sake, I realized it later that I was going to a place where so many Japanese live, so I was able to find a store that sells sake and bought it with help after all.

After Class:
Forward Rolling Breakfalls (36/50)

Note:
Class of 6 and 2 teachers.

My training on the trip is OVER!! I enojoyed every minute of it. A week ago, I could not even kneel ( I still cant do it properly), but today I tried Suwariwaza, and bunny hops! Its really funny that nothing was easy but my knee felt better at the end after doing all these stuff ; )

Someone mentioned they never do bunny hops, and it was for me...I seriously did not think I could do it, but I did it (cheated a bit still...)

LA way is an energetic way (or the hard ass way) ... : )

All the way throught the training trip, everyone I met was very nice and I so enjoyed it.

Man! It was HOT!! My first training in LA, No Air Conditioning, No Break for 2 hrs...I probably had too much salt beforehand... I almost died from thirstiness, yet survived, and it was a lot of fun : )

After the class, we went for Juice! Yummy!! and it ever did taste good!!!
I was supposed to call my cousin to pick me up when it was all done, so I did...here is another accident...the number she told me was not the right one!

Oh boy, I was so lost in a city which hardly has convenient public trasportation...Again, I was able to get a ride from someone who live not far from where I was going...

Things really happened, but nothing was major ; )

from Katate Mochi, Ryote Mochi, Shomen Uchi

Katate Mochi Hijiate Kokyunage-2

Note:
Class of 10,

Sensei allowed me to take pics of the class. Everyone is good especially doing Uke, I wanted to take "the moments" of pictures but I was not so good.........

Burnaby-5

Basic:
Kamae

180 pivot with partner

Technique:
Katate Mochi Ikkajo Nage
Katate Mochi Kokyunage

Note:

Class of 10 or less. The first time I was able to sit ( not exactly in seiza) , the view was very different. I was glad that I was able to sit after all.

208:Wednesday 8:30 : July 5, 2006

Burnaby-4

Basic:
Kihon Dosa all way through (right and left)

Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-1
Shomen Uchi Kotegaeshi-2

(Katate Mochi Sokumen Iriminage)

Nikajo Practice

Note:
Class of 10, Kihon Dosa all way through...3 to 5 times each? I cant really remember exactly... I was trying hard not to fall apart, yet it was a good training.

Yokomen Uchi Shihonage: To keep the focus in the center (punch)

Kotegaeshi: Not the hands (be easy on Uke), but the hips make it better. I tried to make my pivot with Kotegaeshi bigger and better after sensei explained to us the way...I got kicked right on the spot of my sprained knee by that Uke person while him flipping!! Oh No.....!!

It did hurt quite big...I had to sit down for 10 to 15 mins (so I missed to train, Sokumen Iriminage)...Oh well, that happens. While I was sitting on the chair, sensei came and talked me a bit, he has everything under control on the mat, which quite amazed me for the whole time when I was there.

After the class, they took me to a dinner and I got a ride with sensei on the way to the pizza place, which was a lot of fun too.

207:Wednesday 7:00 : July 5, 2006

Jiyuwaza Taisabaki with Katate Mochi
Kokyu nage
Ikkajo Nage
Shomen Iriminage
Shihonage Kuzushi

Hand grip Nikajo

Note:
Class of 10. I trained with brown belts, who are getting their Shodan test this year, for basic techniques, then we all did Kagarigeiko for Jiyuwaza practice. Sensei tells us "relax" all the time for anything, and "people dont listen to me"...that sounds familiar to me ; )

Sensei showed us "Sleeping Ikkajo" it did not hurt but Uke could not move. He claims that he is too old to do "hard way" any longer... I dont see it exactly soft but he sure is solid. I guess he knows what to do or what not to do.

An hour and half went very quickly.

205:Tuesday 7:00 : July 4, 2006

Burnaby- 1

Basic:
Kamae

Technique:
Shomen Uchi Ikkajo-2 (beginning part only)
Shomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage (Kagari geiko)
Shomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage (non basic style-without blocking)

Note:
Class of 10. The very first class I trained in Canada, with Robert sensei. It was a lot of fun.
Sensei casually talks a bit as he teaches, students osu-ing most of the time on the mat. I think it reprents that people are so keen to learn from him, and I so had a great time.

I think people here all read the book, so they know who I am taught by, which I found it very cool : )

still...Tuesday July 4, 2006

at San Francisco Air Port...

It took forever to go through the custom, I finally got my luggage then handed out for another flight. The guy checked out the time when I told him I was cathing the next flight to Vancouver, then said..."can you run really fast?" I said "yes" and started running. I was going from US to Canada, so I went into nternational gates and went throught the metal detector.

...Oh, no...my flight is not on the board! I can't be that late!!

I asked another person, then he told me, " Vancouver? you should be at Domestic gates"

!!!DAMN RIGHT!!!

I ran, I mean I ran and ran...to go out of the door where I had my bags checked out, I had to ask another person for getting out of metal detector, he looked at me and said, " Oh, men! Can you RUN really FAST?" I said yes then "I heard him saying, " Good luck!" as started running again...

Yes, I made it to Vancouver just in time in one piece : )

Hungry not allowed to train!

I was told not to come to the class this morning since I am leaving for a very excited training trip!

I was told..."if you come, we will tape you to the chair", or "we will SO annoy you"... and they also claim they are the only people I know...do I know nice people?? Guess "wondering" is not an option ; )

Thanks to the only people I know on this planet, I am safely at the airport updating my blog waiting to board. Lucky lucky me : )

Tip to get a seat beside the emergency exit : they would not allow people with injuries that area, so just ask for the area and not tell them about your injury.

Weapon Class at Hikawa Budojo : Jo

Jo Kata-1 (10/20)

Jo Kata-2(10/31)

Technique:

Ikkajo Nage
Nikajo, Ikkajo Nage

Note:
Class of 2 and a kid. No English boys were expected to be there since they were expected to be WASTED at this time.

I like "JO", you can go either forward or backwards with it. Very very cool stuff.

Last 20 mins, Techniques in Kagari geiko. Sensei doesnt do "EASY" no matter what, which is "the way"...to give 100% of what you have is also a part of training, I think I know this for a while now, yet I seem like finding it as a fresh reminder whenever I realize it on the mat.

Sunday, July 02, 2006

203:Saturday 6:15 : July 1, 2006

KOTEGAESHIS!

Basic:

Technique:
Shomen Uchi Kotegaeshi-1
Ryote Mochi Kotegaeshi-1
Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Kotegaeshi-2
Helicopter Kotegaeshi

Note:

Class of 3, ALL KOTEGAESHI!

How to make Uke fall over: PRETEND hitting really hard and make Uke block hard, or Hit really hard, Uke should fall off from it.

How to make Hiriki no Yosei-2 turn without pulling Uke: BABY FINGER plus that Uke falling off movement. Still working on it.

Ryote Mochi Kotegaeshi: Surprisingly painful with hands! There is no way other than to flip out if you want to get out of PAIN.

Ushiro Ryote: Circle is different from Ushiro Ikkajo one. It took me sometime to see how that Ikkajo circle work from Ushirowaza, then here is the new one. I bet its gonna take some more time ; )

Helicopter Kotegaeshi: If I see someone else do it, I can see how they flip out of it, yet I can not see it as being Uke, so I just fall down on the mat which I believe harder for Uke. Harder means, pain wise.

DP commented: 3 people asked 3 different questions for the basic technique we have been working for months and months.

As watching the demos, a thought poped up at my head...I used to say "I like kotegaeshi cuz I thought it was for small people like me". I used to say it as I thought I knew kotegaeshi...now I think...what I was thinking?? I know I knew like nothing, since I know I know like nothing now ; )

I hit my back many times trying to flip without using my left leg so much...glad my flip had gotten better ; )

Friday, June 30, 2006

202:Friday 7:00 : June 30, 2006

Basic:
Kihon Dosa Renzoku

Technique:
Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-1

Kotegaeshi (getting the Kotegaeshi hands part)

Note:
Class of 2...and I trained! : )

Although, couldnt kneel properly yet...also. it was very very difficult to apply Sankajo from Ryote Mochi. We got stuck in movements so many times then, finally sensei moved instead of we moved him after all.

What he told us was simpler than what we actually tried to do or did. (he said points were only THREE, I cant remember in his exact words but all I remember is...
Stay in Kamae
Do not lose Kamae
Keep your center line...all about Kamae...anything else?

There are things to focus on to stay in kamae such as like to push your hip and so...but its all about stay in a good kamae.

For Kotegaeshi, I have been trying hard to get the right Kotegaeshi hands movement. Still cant get it right. I still dont see how to get Uke off balance as I try to make Hiriki no yosei-2 turn. Or, I need to get Uke off balance then I make the turn, otherwise...it doesnt work. Also,
I dont forget that "baby finger" is a very important factor, still...it will take more time : )

It was very humid in the dojo (sensei pushed the magic bottom to get the cool air!),
however I felt good to train!

How to deal with an injury continues... ; )

201:Thursday 5:45 : June 29, 2006

Back on the MAT!

Yet, I was allowed to do only stretching...still felt much better to be back on the mat with dogi on : )

Dogis are comfortable ; )

NOTE: Its not the only thing I have in my closet.

Wednesday, June 28, 2006

200:Wednesday 5:45 : June 28, 2006 (Mitorigeiko)

Basic:
Shumatsu Dosa

Technique:
Katate Mochi Shihonage-1 & 2
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage-1
Shomen Uchi Shihonage

Katate Mochi Sankajo Osae-1 & 2
Ushirowaza Katate Eri Mochi Sankajo Osae-1 & 2
Hiji Mochi Sankajo Osae-1

Note:
Class of 1 and me doing Mitorigeiko, also my 200th!

The class focused on the very detail points of Shihonages, and Ushiro Sankajos.

When they were working on how to make the circle to get Shihonage shape from Shomen Uchi/Yokomen Uchi...I wanted to run and join and do it!

Mitori-geiko is a good training, yet I prefer to train! Maybe, Mitori-geiko is also good for realizing it ; )

Tuesday, June 27, 2006

199:Tuesday 5:45 : June 27, 2006 (Mitorigeiko)

Basic:

Kihon Dosa (Tai no Henko-1 & 2)

Technique:

Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae-1
Shomen Uchi Ikkajo Osae-1

Note:
Class of 2 and me (Mitorigeiko), it was very interesting class to do Mitori after all.
I think I learned a lot by watching...many times it helps a great deal to get an image in my head for what to do/how to do.

During the class, I was remembering that one class that we worked so much on Ikkajo a several weeks ago, I thought I learned a lot then, hope I still remember them...

When I first learned Shomen Uchi Nikajo, I could not even get an idea to relate its initial movement to Ikkajo one...now, at least, I see it even though I dont quite do it. Let's call it a progress and feel good about it : )

Sunday, June 25, 2006

198:Saturday 6:15 : June 24, 2006

Basic:

Technique:
Suwariwaza Katate Ayamochi Nikajo Osae-1
Katate Ayamochi Nikajo Osae-1
Suwariwaza Katate Ayamohi Nikajo Osae-2
Katate Ayamochi Nikajo Osae-2

Katate Mochi Hijiate Kokyunage-1

(Jujitsu like)
Kicking Sokumen Iriminage
Kicking Kokyunage

Note:
Class of 6. Series of Ayamochi Nikajo...I dont think I understand Nikajo at all, well so I keep training...the day may come!! ( I feel the same way, everytime!)

With Hijiate Kokyunage, I was trying to flip by jumping higher as I learned earlier, not really know if I could make any difference in day, yet an attempt was there.

We tried some Jujitsu style techniques which start from Kicking, I had no idea of "kicking" so I did not know what to expect. The first one was much more fun than it looked. Not much to do but big effect was lying on the mat before you knew it. It happened with the second one. I FELL! with my knee bending to the wrong way!! It made a funny sound and I could not figure out what happened to my knee for like 30 secs...Soon I was able to stand up, so nothing was broken was a good news : )

Next morning, I knew I was carrying an injury with the pain as I woke up! I did not know what's really happening for a little while not knowing what to do...soon I realized it will heal, I just needed to figure out what to do/ what not to do ; )

To deal with injuries: It was a good thing that I had decided not to be afraid of getting injured because it would always heal. I felt so much easier after deciding that and it helped /encouraged me a great deal to get over the fear esp. for Jiyuwaza. Now, this, which was on my (kinda) to do list, happend for real.

To get injured and heal must sound silly to have it on my to do list even for the martial art...however, it will become a fact if you do it, not only having in my mind. I am not exactly enjoying the pain itself but "kinda" enjoying the situation in a way after all. : )

197:Saturday 11:30 : June 24, 2006

Kokusai Class with Jo

Basic:

Suriashi
180 pivot...

Technique:

forgot the real name: like tenchi nage
like tenchi nage starts from turning around
Ikkajo
Shihonage
do nothing and make uke flip (like ducking down with barehand)

After Class : Jiyuwaza
I still move too much as Uke, it mostly takes a lot of energy and also gives less chance to be in control of own movements...only my assumption but...its good to make movements smaller.

Jump and Flip!
To flip higher, I've got a tip to jump high. Need to practice JUMPING, then jump and flip. Its not easy as it sounds...think its gonna take sometime...♪

Note:
Class of many, 20 plus? Its always fun to train with Senshuseis, I enjoy the energy they have.
Its been nearly 3 months since the course had started, even those senshuseis who started Yoshinkan in April are not beginners any more.

Kagari geiko using a soft mat to flip. My first class with Jo, it wasnt easy not knowing how to handle a jo but it was such a fun class.

196:Friday 7:00 : June 23, 2006

Happy Birthday Steven!

Basic:
Back Breakfalls 39 x 2...78! (He looks so young for that age... !)

180 Pivot ..stay low and forward

Technique:

Ushirowaza Katate Mochi Shomen Iriminage (non-basic)
Ushirowaza Katate Mochi Kotegaeshi(non-basic)

Kotegaeshi pin practice
Sankajo Practice

Note:
Class of 2, San nin dori class.

My body parts are gradually getting damaged since I started training, my right elbow is kinda bad and I was carring some pain with my left wrist from massive Sankajo training with Sugar a week ago. Sensei must have some kind of animal instinct to hit exactly what I'm weak at!

Today's Specials were: Kotegaeshi pin with my right elbow and Sankajo with my left wrist.
I just could not stop laughing when sensei showed the way on my right elbow, it was nothing but pain! He even made Steven to try on me when he finished explaining...lucky me : )

Also Sankajo practice, we could not move sensei at all...I thought I had found some line to turn with pivot last week, but it must have been just an illusion. Its just a start over, Sankajo is tough, so is everything else ; )

Thursday, June 22, 2006

195:Thursday 7:00 : June 22, 2006

Basic:

Hiriki no Yosei with partner 1 & 2

Technqiue:
Suwariwaza Mune Mochi Nikajo Osae-1
Mune Mochi Nikajo Osae-1
Suwariwaza Mune Mochi Nikajo Osae-2
Mune Mochi Nikajo Osae-2

Note:
Class of 7, 4 pairs with sensei. I just had NO IDEA what I was supposed to do with series of Mune Mochi esp. with Nikajo! Its fun to work on things I even dont understand...yet it was confusing. I'm sure I will feel the same way when we do "Mune-mochi" the next time.

194:Thursday 5:45 : June 22, 2006

Basic:
Kihon Dosa Renzoku (successful with the third try!)

Technique:
Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Nikajo Osae 1 & 2
Ushiro Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae 1 & 2
Suwariwaza Yokomen Uchi Shomen Iriminage 1 & 2
Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Kotegaeshi 1 & 2
Yokomen Uchi Shihonage 1 & 2
Katate Mochi Ikkajo Osae 1 & 2

Note:

Class of 2.

We were struggling with Katate Mochi Ikkajo when Sensei walked in...so we asked if we could ask a question then he said with a sleepy grin, " Umm..send me an email", shocked us and even froze us by disappearing from our sight... Of course, he came back and taught us a minute later : )

I had started to pace my condition a week before the test by not doing anything other than test training and not asking teachers for jiyuwaza and so.
After the test/gasshuku, I found being "exhausted", so I tried to adjust my condition by skipping a few classes. Somehow I started feeling like I might have lost something...yet instead of worry about it, I thought it was probably the sign for being ready to get back to "really train" again : )

To avoid getting lost in movements, I tried to go through techniques as precise as possible. There are things (or many things) I can't quite do just yet, but I do know what I'm suppose to do, and there are somethings I'm able to do. I assume how to set your mind when you train is very important, and I enjoyed to feel the differences.

After the class, Sensei gave us BROWN BELTS, YEY! Although, it felt a bit awkward to wear it for the first time...guess it takes some time to get used to, and it starts fitting us when we move on, or we start fitting to it : )

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

193:Wednesday 7 :00 : June 21, 2006

Self Defence continues...

Class of 2.

I was surprised myself for having such intention to let Uke down even when I was not supposed to do so... Its sure that sometimes holding Uke is more effective than just letting them down with a chance for them to get up and attack again.

Sensei presented some "nasty" ways to defeat a person in non-basic ways...I personally dont care for these things as I simply enjoy training Aikido "friendly", however its important to know how things really work in the real world...so it was good to learn, an interesting class.

192:Wednesday 5:45 : June 21, 2006

Self Defence

Class of 1.

Going behind Uke's knee and kick was so COOL! You should not let your teacher to step on your feet exspecially between toe area...I somehow got myself into it and got bruised big time...

Oh, poor me...

191:Tuesday 7:00 : June 20, 2006

Basic:
Kihon Dosa Renzoku
180 Pivot with partner (forever...)

Technique:
Katate Mochi, Kaitennage (a bit of Hajime)
Katate Mochi, Yokomen Uchi, Sokumen Iriminage
Katate Mochi, Shomen Tsuki, Kokyunage

Note:
Class of 6. Man! It was HOT!!

I, at least, tried to have that Kamae moment before applying techniques, for today pivoting. Yet, the rest of everything was not anywhere...the best I could do was not to lose myself...it was very very hard class for me, maybe I was not still at my best condition...

190:Tuesday 5:45 : June 20, 2006

John's TEST and he PASSED!!
Congrats!

Sunday, June 18, 2006

189:Saturday 6:15 : June 17, 2006

Basic:

Technique:

Several Techniques randomly chosen from Dai Ichi and Dai Ni
such as...
Suwariwaza Ryote Mochi Kokyuho
Suwariwaza Katate Mochi Yonkajo
Ryote Mochi Tenchinage
Katate Mochi Hijiate Kokyunage
Shomen Tsuki Kotegaeshi
...and some more...

Ushirowaza Ryote Mochi Sankajo Osae-1 & 2

Note:
Class of 4, great Sankajo session for me : )

As SOMEONE suggested, we tried on resisting as hard as we could for one or two rounds. The amount we sweat was almost unconceivable! It was worth learning to get the arms in positions with the strongest resist, as long as you go low enough, altough I had to pay the price by carrying the shoulder/wrist soreness for the next few days... ; )

Also for Sankajo, there is a line to make a circle to move the strong/heavy Uke with Sankajo.

Sankajo-2 has been the most uneffective technique for me for the last several months, I feel better to be able to see the chance for finding the line after all. I havent found the way yet, still I see the light is good enough for me.
